Story of Haenyeo is a club dedicated to raising awareness of Jeju’s Haenyeo and preserving their cultural heritage for future generations. As a founding member, I worked as a writer and editor on a picture book about Haenyeo from 2024 to 2025.
Jeju, where I live, is known for its tangerines, but every year, a huge amount goes to waste. According to Yonhap News, around 1,400 tons of tangerines are wasted annually on the island. To help address this issue, I volunteered at local farms, working alongside a team to harvest and pack tangerines, cutting down on food waste while supporting the local community.
To help cut down on tangerine waste, I organized a fundraising booth at Spring Tidings that turned leftover tangerines into tangerine tanghulu (sugar-coated fruit). Since tanghulu had become a big trend among younger people, we figured it'd be a great way to reduce food waste while raising money for the local community.
