Jeju, where I live, is known for its tangerines, but every year, a huge amount goes to waste. According to Yonhap News, around 1,400 tons of tangerines are wasted annually on the island. To help address this issue, I volunteered at local farms, working alongside a team to harvest and pack tangerines, cutting down on food waste while supporting the local community. As someone who grew up here, I felt proud to actually do something about the environmental and economic challenges facing my own island.

This experience taught me how much collaboration matters when trying to make a real difference locally. Even small acts of service, I realized, can genuinely help a community and push it toward a more sustainable future.
