Internship: VEX IQ Robotics Instructor for Middle School Students (2023-2024)

Grade 9




From 2024 to 2025, I served as a Design Intern for the VEX IQ Robotics program, teaching middle school students the fundamentals of VEX IQ robotics.


To build a strong foundation, I guided students through installing and using VEXos Utility and VEXcode IQ. I also created educational presentations that explained the core components of the robotics system, including motors, wires, batteries, the robot brain, and VEX IQ sensors such as the Gyro, Distance, Color, Touch LED, and Bumper Switch. To help students better understand the material, I designed interactive Kahoot! quizzes that reviewed key concepts and encouraged active participation.



Once students were comfortable with the hardware and software, I organized a Balloon Pop Competition, where teams designed and built robots to pop their opponents' balloons. I guided them through the engineering design process by helping them form teams, brainstorm robot mechanisms, sketch ideas, build prototypes, test their robots, and refine their designs through collaboration.


In addition, I supported students preparing for VEX IQ soccer competitions, handling scheduling and competition logistics so they could focus on teamwork and technical preparation.


Through this experience, I realized that an effective robotics curriculum is essential to helping students build confidence step by step. I also learned the importance of communicating complex technical concepts in a clear and engaging way when teaching beginners.
