National: Third Place, Korean School Safety Accident Data Analysis/Utilization Competition (out of 128 teams)

I received Third Place in the Korean School Safety Accident Data Analysis & Utilization Competition, out of 128 teams. The competition required participants to analyze five years of school safety accident data and propose evidence-based solutions to reduce school accidents.


Working with one teammate, I analyzed large datasets using Python, Pandas, and Matplotlib to process spreadsheet data and visualize accident trends. Our analysis showed that accident rates were significantly higher during physical education (PE) classes. Digging further, we found that nearly half of all school accidents in 2023 involved exercise equipment, with the most common injuries resulting from physical collisions, sprains, falls, and ball games.





To better understand the causes behind these trends, we complemented our data analysis with interviews and surveys. Through quantitative and qualitative research, we concluded that many accidents stemmed from students' carelessness and insufficient safety education. Based on our findings, I proposed three solutions. The first was a student monitoring system using wearable smart devices to track heart rates and movement during PE classes, which enabled teachers to respond quickly to emergencies. The second solution introduced virtual reality (VR) simulations to train students in agility, ball-game scenarios, and emergency response. The final proposal was an AI-powered equipment detection system that uses cameras to analyze student movements and provide real-time voice guidance, even when teachers are unable to directly supervise every student.


After presenting our research and proposed solutions to professors and representatives from the Korean Educational Organization, our team was awarded Third Place among 128 competing teams.
